What you need to know about COVID-19 in Ottawa on Friday, July 23

Recent developments:

  • Permanent residents are in suspension, waiting to migrate to Canada during the pandemic.
  • Pet owners struggle to care for their animals while veterinarians face residues.
  • Ottawa reported nine more COVID-19 cases on Thursday.

What’s new?

There is a backlog of approximately 23,000 aspiring immigrants with expired or soon-to-expire documents waiting to enter Canada during the pandemic. Here are some of their stories.

The influx of pandemic pets and the chase after a lockdown have resulted in a “perfect storm” of residues in veterinary clinics, including emergency animal hospitals, according to an Ottawa veterinarian.

Ottawa Public Health reported nine more cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths Thursday, but key indicators are increasing.

How many cases are there?

As of Thursday, 27,761 residents of Ottawa had tested positive for COVID-19. There are 34 known active cases, 27,134 cases considered resolved, and 593 people died.

Public health officials have reported more than 50,300 COVID-19 cases in eastern Ontario and western Quebec, including more than 49,200 resolved cases.

197 people have died elsewhere in eastern Ontario. In western Quebec, the death toll is 215.

Akwesasne has nearly 700 residents who tested positive and 10 deaths between its northern and southern sections.

Kitigan Zibi had 34 cases and one death. Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory had 11 with one death. Pikwakanagan didn’t have any.

What are the rules

Eastern Ontario:

Ontario is in step 3 of its reopening plan.

The latest move allows for indoor eating, with capacity limits being based on everyone being able to maintain an acceptable distance.

Fitness studios, cinemas and museums can reach a capacity of 50 percent inside.

Larger general meeting limits have increased to 25 people inside and 100 people outside. For organized events, these limits are even higher, leading to the resumption of summer festivals and professional sports.

A detailed plan for the next school year is in the works, said the education minister.

Western Quebec

West Quebec is now subject to the green zone restrictions, the lowest on the province’s four-color scale. His distance length is now one meter.

Ten people can gather in private houses and 20 people outside – 50 for sports. Organized games are allowed outside again and fitness studios are open.

You can eat both inside and outside in restaurants and bars.

Personal care services and non-essential stores can be opened. Up to 3,500 people can gather in a large theater or arena and at outdoor festivals.

What can I do?

The novel coronavirus spreads mainly through droplets that can hang in the air.

People can be contagious even after vaccination with no symptoms. Worrying variants of coronavirus are more contagious and well established.

Therefore, it is important to take precautions now and in the future, e.g. B. to stay at home in case of illness – and get help with costs if necessary – to keep hands and surfaces clean and to keep a distance from anyone you do not live with, even with a mask.

Vaccines curb the spread of all types of coronavirus.

Masks, preferably those that are tight-fitting and have three layers, are mandatory in indoor public spaces in Ontario and Quebec and are recommended in crowded outdoor areas.

There are federal guidelines on what vaccinated people can do in different situations.

Fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents can now skip the 14-day quarantine. People must show evidence of a recent COVID-19 negative test to enter Canada by land without being fined.

The federal government has announced that fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents will be able to visit Canada without quarantine from August 9, while tourists from all other countries will be allowed from September 7.

Health Canada recommends that older adults and those with pre-existing conditions get help with errands.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms should self-isolate, as should those directed by their health department. The duration of self-isolation varies in Quebec and Ontario.

Vaccinations

Four COVID-19 vaccines are considered safe and legal in Canada. Three are in use, with the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine being the only one approved for children ages 12-17.

Canada’s Task Force says people can wait up to 16 weeks between doses. There are factors that are forcing provinces to drastically speed up this schedule, including supply and the more contagious Delta variant.

The same task force says it is safe and effective to mix the first and second doses.

There is some evidence that a second dose of a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine may provide better protection for people who have had a first AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccination. Both Ontario and Quebec give people who have received a first dose of AstraZeneca the option to have a second of the same kind.

Since mid-December, more than 2.8 million doses have been administered in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, of which more than 1.36 million in Ottawa and more than 450,000 in western Quebec.

Eastern Ontario

Ontario vaccinates anyone who is 12 or older.

People can search for provincial appointments online or by calling 1-833-943-3900. Pharmacies continue to offer vaccines through their own booking systems, as do some general practitioners.

Local health facilities have greater flexibility, including when booking. Therefore, find out more on their websites. They offer standby lists for short-term doses and, more recently, more walk-in options.

Campaigns are shifting to target those who may be eligible to get a second chance sooner or who have not yet had their first chance. Some mass clinics have closed.

Vaccine bookings depend on supplies being sent to health units, which generally do not report supply issues from previous months.

Western Quebec

Quebec vaccinates everyone aged 12 and over. His goal is to give a second dose four weeks after the first.

Those who qualify can make an appointment online or by phone, or visit one of the province’s permanent and mobile walk-in clinics.

People may need to show a full vaccination card to access certain services if there is an increase in cases in the fall.

Symptoms and tests

COVID-19 can range from a cold-like illness to a severe lung infection, with common symptoms such as fever, cough, vomiting, and loss of taste or smell. Lately, a runny nose and headache have become more common.

Children are prone to upset stomach and / or rashes.

If you have severe symptoms, call 911.

Mental health can also be affected by the pandemic, and resources are available to help.

In Eastern Ontario:

If you want to take a test, you should make an appointment. Inquire at your health department about clinic locations and times.

Ontario recommends only getting tested if you meet certain criteria, such as: B. Symptoms, exposure or a specific activity.

Staff, nurses and visitors who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms of the coronavirus no longer need to be tested before entering a care facility.

People without symptoms, but who are part of the country’s targeted testing strategy, can make an appointment at selected pharmacies. There are quick tests in some places.

Travelers who need a test have a few more local options to pay for one.

In western Quebec:

Tests are highly recommended for people with symptoms and their contacts.

First Nations, Inuit and Métis:

First Nations, Inuit and Métis, or those traveling to work in a remote indigenous community, are eligible to take a test in Ontario.

Akwesasne has COVID-19 vaccine clinics with information online or at 613-575-2341. Anyone in Tyendinaga interested in a test can call 613-967-3603 and should look out for specific vaccine clinics on the website.

Inuit in Ottawa can call the Akausivik Inuit Family Health Team at 613-740-0999 for service, including testing and vaccines, in Inuktitut or English on weekdays.

The last day for Ottawa’s Indigenous Vaccination Clinic is July 29th.

E-cigarettes and your life insurance policy

Why do vapers get smoking rates??

E-cigarettes are battery operated products that deliver nicotine, flavor, and other chemicals. They convert chemicals, including nicotine, into an aerosol that the user inhales.

NCR back to GCQ ‘with heightened restrictions’ until July 31; kids no longer allowed outdoors – Manila Bulletin

President Duterte has agreed to return the National Capital Region (NCR) to general community quarantine (GCQ) with tightened restrictions, and changed the quarantine classifications of other areas, Malacañang announced.

President’s spokesman Harry Roque made the statement following the Department of Health (DOH) statement on local transmission of the more contagious Delta variant of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) this week.

In a statement on Friday, July 23, Roque said Duterte had agreed to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) recommendation for emerging infectious disease management to put the following areas of tightened restrictions under GCQ:

  • NCR
  • Ilocos north
  • Ilocos south
  • Golden Davao
  • Davao del Norte

NCR was previously under normal GCQ, while both Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur were previously under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ). Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte were previously under the modified extended community quarantine (MECQ).

Meanwhile, Roque said that Davao del Sur, which was also under MECQ, was placed under the normal GCQ.

All new quarantine classifications are valid until July 31, 2021.

For areas that are under GCQ with increased restrictions, children five and older are no longer allowed to go to select outdoor areas, Roque said.

The IATF has allowed children ages five and up to visit selected outdoor areas in GCQ and MGCQ areas to promote their physical and mental health. However, Metro Manila Mayors appealed to the panel to suspend the policy following the surge in COVID-19 cases.

On Thursday, the independent research group OCTA reported that the COVID-19 reproductive rate in Metro Manila rose to 1.15.

Increased restriction policies

Under GCQ with tightened restrictions, only essential trips are allowed, but public transport will remain in operation. People between the ages of 18 and 65 are also allowed to leave their homes.

In addition, indoor dining is limited to 20 percent of the event or seating capacity, while outdoor or outdoor dining is limited to 50 percent of the event or seating capacity.

Outdoor tourist attractions, on the other hand, can be opened up to 30 percent in strict compliance with minimum public health standards. Specialist stores of the Department of Tourism (DOT) are also allowed.

Religious gatherings and gatherings for necrological services, wakes, burials, and funerals for those who have died from causes other than COVID-19 are allowed up to 10 percent of the venue’s capacity.

NHL 2021-22 season schedule features Lightning, Kraken on opening night

The Tampa Bay Lightning will hold their Stanley Cup banner ceremony, and the Seattle Kraken will play their first regular season game when the 2021-22 NHL season opens on October 12th.

The league released its 1,312 schedule on Thursday, 82 for each team.

The Lightning will hoist their third championship banner and second in as many seasons before playing the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Amalie Arena on the first of two opening nights of the Games (Tampa Bay also won the 2004 trophy). In the second game, the Kraken will play as the 32nd team in the NHL when they visit the Vegas Golden Knights at the T-Mobile Arena. Vegas became the league’s 31st team in 2017-18.

The Kraken, who selected 30 players in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft presented by Upper Deck on Wednesday, will play their first five games on the street before playing their home opener against the Vancouver Canucks at the Climate Pledge Arena on October 23.

The New York Islanders will play their first game in their new home, the UBS Arena, against the Calgary Flames on November 20 after starting the season with 13 street games to complete the construction. It is the most straight street game to begin a season in NHL history and the second longest street ever (Canucks, January 14 to March 10, 2010).

The Montreal Canadiens will host the Lightning in a rematch of the Stanley Cup Final on December 7th at the Bell Center.

There are two outdoor games on the game board. The Minnesota Wild will host the St. Louis Blues on January 1 at the 2022 NHL Winter Classic at Target Field in Minneapolis, home of the MLB’s Minnesota Twins, in a game originally scheduled for January 1, 2021. The Nashville Predators will face the Lightning in the Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series 2022 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, home of the NFL Tennessee Titans, on February 26th.

The Golden Knights are hosting the 2022 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend at the T-Mobile Arena with the 2022 NHL All-Star Skills on February 4th and the 2022 Honda NHL All-Star Game on February 5th.

The All-Star Weekend will be followed by a break from February 7-22 if the league reaches an agreement with the NHL Players’ Association and the International Ice Hockey Federation to allow NHL players to participate in the Beijing 2022 Olympics . Talks on outstanding issues, including securing appropriate COVID-19 insurance, will continue.

The NHL and NHLPA reserve the right not to participate in the Olympic Games if COVID-19 conditions deteriorate or otherwise pose a threat to the health and safety of players, or for any other reason warranting such a decision. If NHL players fail to participate, the league will publish a revised schedule that takes the dates and games as much as possible from the schedule announced on Thursday.

When NHL players compete in the Olympics, the regular season resumes on February 23rd and ends on April 29th with 30 of the 32 teams in action.

After the NHL was temporarily realigned and reduced to a cross-departmental schedule of 56 games this season due to COVID-19, the NHL will revert to its previous schedule format, with each team playing at least twice against everyone else, and its previous cross-departmental orientation the Metropolitan Division and Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference and the Central Division and Pacific Division in the Western Conference.

Each team plays three or four games against the seven other teams in its division, three games against the eight teams in the other division in its conference, and two games against the 16 teams in the other conference.

SILVERSTONE, England (Reuters) -Max Verstappen took pole position for the British Grand Prix and made Formula One history by winning the sport’s first sprint race on Saturday and extending his lead over Lewis Hamilton to 33 points.

Seven-time world champion Hamilton will compete alongside his Dutch rival in Sunday’s Grand Prix after finishing second for Mercedes in just over half an hour of qualifying over 17 laps.

The winner got three points, two of them for second and one for third place.

Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas finished third, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, in a race aimed at adding more thrills to fans and possibly shaking up the grid during the three days of action on the track.

“We had a good start and a good fight with Lewis on the first lap and then we tried to go at our own pace. You could see that we were pushing each other a lot because the tires were blowing a lot at the end of the race, Said Verstappen.

“In the end, of course, I’m happy to have scored these three points – it sounds a bit strange to hear that you have taken pole position. But we’ll take it anyway. It should be a really exciting fight tomorrow.”

The first three were trucked around the circuit for a parade lap instead of celebrating after the podium as usual, without champagne, but the winner was adorned with an old-style laurel wreath.

Pole was the fourth in a row for Verstappen, who will chase his sixth win of the season and fourth in a row on Sunday.

It also finished a Mercedes run of nine straight poles at Silverstone.

GAME OVER

Hamilton had qualified on Friday with Verstappen at the top of the grid, but lost at the start and despite a brief wheel-to-wheel battle, the game was practically over by the end of the round.

Despite the flickering flames from the front left brakes, the Red Bull proved to be too fast for the Mercedes to catch up at the finish line, 1,430 seconds behind Hamilton.

“Tomorrow we will fight again, but they are just so strong. In the race he broke away,” said Hamilton the 2009 world champion and former McLaren team-mate Jenson Button, who conducted the interviews.

“There was nothing I could do to keep him up so we really have to try to get ahead somehow,” added the Briton, who has won his home race seven times, waving tens of thousands of cheers to fans on a hot afternoon.

The big victim of the new format was Verstappen’s team-mate Sergio Perez, who spun over the gravel in seventh place on lap six.

He managed to bypass the barriers and continued before the team told him to withdraw.

“We thought there wasn’t much to win (in the sequel), so we decided to give up the car,” said the Mexican, whose team risks their lead shrinking to 44 points in the constructors’ championship.

The big winner at the start was Alpines Fernando Alonso, the two-time world champion shot from 11th to fifth place and finally finished seventh.

McLaren’s Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo finished fifth and sixth, respectively, and Sebastian Vettel eighth for Aston Martin from Silverstone.

Brit George Russell finished ninth for Williams but was later dropped three places after causing a collision with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who finished eleventh.

The penalty put Alpines Esteban Ocon in ninth place ahead of Sainz 10.
